Jamaica Gleaner
Get drastic, PSOJ, activate the gallows!
published: Sunday July 6, 2008
The Editor, Sir:
I am pleased to see the response of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), in offering a tidy sum (could be more) to assist our beleaguered police force in its efforts. However, the headlines mentioned 'Drastic crime plan'. To my mind, that is not drastic. Where are the drastic sanctions that should be a part of this thrust?
Read the whole letter here.
Snippet(s):
"We have always put the human rights of these perpetrators first and foremost, and our present situation is the result.
What about the human rights of those slain?
We have repeatedly put forward many reasons why we should dispense with capital punishment in the form of hanging. Is this not a part of the system of justice?
We want justice now for the families of the victims of murder. That justice is they must pay with their lives, and not be nurtured and fed with the tax dollars of us all."
