Sunday, March 07, 2010

THE licence of scrap metal dealer St Catherine Recycling Limited has recently been reinstated following suspension in January by the Industry, Investment and Commerce Ministry.

Read the whole article here.

Snippet(s):

"The company's licence was suspended after authorities said it was found with 556 water meters. The company, however, raised an objection to the suspension, saying that it could explain how it came by the meters."

"Joshua Thomas, managing director of St Catherine Recycling, explained that the company had bought the meters from someone on whom it thought it could rely after 30 previous successful transactions without any question of impropriety."

"Samuda bemoaned the fact that the country's infrastructure was being "whittled away" by elements in the scrap metal industry, and said it could not be allowed to continue."

&

"Items such as manhole covers, railway tracks and bridge rails were also being stolen to meet increased demand abroad."
